You CAN Get there from Here tells the story of David E. Carter, who grew up in Flatwoods, Kentucky in a single-parent home.

His mother worked as a grocery store cashier at Kroger, and money was in short supply.

In 9th grade, David's albebra teacher told him, "You're not college material."

David under-achieved his way through Russell High School, finishing with a solid 2.2 average.

But, many people along way saw something within David, and with their guideance and encouragement, he finally began "to becoming the person I wanted to be."

After attending what is now Ashland Communmity & Tecdhnical College for 2 years, he trasferred to the University of Kentucky and majored in advertising. Next, he went to graduate school at Ohio University's School of Journalism.

Less than a year after receiving his master's degree from OU, he was being honored as one of the top creative people in the nation by the Direct Mail Advertising Association.

Today, David's resume shows:

• 7  Emmy Awards for TV.

• Clio Award honoree 10 times.

• The All-time best-selling producer of graphic design books (114).

• Creator of the Telly Awards.

• Founder of the Mickey Mantle-Whitey Ford Fantasy Baseball Camp.

And, he did all this while living and working in his hometown: Ashland, Ky.


David's story is written by Don Moore, a tenured, associate professor and is director of the Electronic Media program  at Ohio University Southern Campus.
