Future Generations Summit in Portugal

The Future Generations Summit brought together diverse voices to advance the long-term governance and intergenerational fairness agenda in Portugal. Through dialogue, working sessions, and knowledge sharing, participants explored systemic challenges through a futures-oriented lens.

The event showcased national innovation in Portugal and situated it within an EU and international context, aligning with progress on the EU Intergenerational Fairness Framework and the UN Pact for the Future.

Building on Portugal’s tradition of anticipatory democracy and initiatives like the 2050 Visions for Portugal and Gulbenkian’s Intergenerational Fairness Programme, the event built momentum and aimed to inspire collaborative pathways.

The summit brought together approximately 70–90 participants spanning generations and sectors—from civil society, government, academia, business, and youth-led initiatives—and helped strengthen Portugal’s leadership in shaping a sustainable and equitable future for current and future generations.
